Two Priesthoods. One Sign.
In the wilderness, Aaron’s authority was confirmed by a rod that came back to life.
A dead stick budded, bloomed, and bore fruit.
It was the sign God gave to settle the question of priesthood.
Centuries later, a greater priesthood would be signified in the same way.
A branch now lives again.
Jesus is that branch. His resurrection is the sign.
Aaron held a branch that lived.
Jesus is the branch alive again, still living!
Aaron’s Priesthood and the Budding Rod:
• Numbers 17:1–10 – God confirms Aaron’s priesthood with a rod that buds, blooms, and yields almonds
• Hebrews 5:4 – No man taketh this honor unto himself but he that is called of God, as was Aaron
Jesus as the Branch:
• Isaiah 11:1 – A rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots
• Jeremiah 23:5–6 – I will raise unto David a righteous Branch
• Zechariah 3:8 – I will bring forth my servant the Branch
• Zechariah 6:12–13 – The man whose name is The Branch; he shall build the temple of the Lord
Jesus’ Resurrection and Priesthood:
• Psalm 110:4 – Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek
• Hebrews 7:15–17 – After the similitude of Melchizedek there ariseth another priest… by the power of an endless life
• Romans 1:4 – Declared to be the Son of God with power… by the resurrection from the dead
• Revelation 1:18 – I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore
Connection and Fulfillment:
• Hebrews 8:1–6 – A more excellent ministry, mediator of a better covenant
• Hebrews 9:11–12 – By his own blood he entered in once into the holy place
• Colossians 2:17 – Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ
People make big claims every day. Some claims are so impressive that we want to believe them. Love believes all things, but love is not gullible. Love does not require us to turn off our brains or accept every story at face value. It is the love of truth that makes us careful with what we accept and share.
Recently I heard a luthier claim to have taught thousands of students from scratch all the way to becoming capable guitarists. Sounds great. But let’s put it to the test with simple math—and then see what you think about it.
If it takes about six months—roughly 25 weekly lessons—for a beginner to reach intermediate level, and if a full-time teacher handles 30 students a week, that is 1,500 lessons in a year. Divide that by 25 lessons per student, and you get 60 intermediate students a year. If you teach full-time for 17 years, you could personally train just over 1,000 people to that level. That is assuming perfect attendance, no dropouts, and a schedule that never falters. Real-world ...
Preaching the truth is not about posturing—it’s about standing firm with clarity, humility, and strategy.
Jesus did not send His messengers into safe places. He sent them into the teeth of hostility with orders to be wise and harmless. That standard still governs faithful preaching today. So what happens when strategy and sincerity are treated as partners instead of opposites?
